IoT Horizon implements MULTOS technology within their secure MPWR:Sense solution

The MULTOS Consortium, a group of international blue chip organisations responsible for the promotion and development of the MULTOS specifications, announced today that IoT Horizon, one of its members, has completed the implementation of the secure MULTOS technology within its MPWR:Sense solution, a secure and standalone, environmental sensor.

IoT Horizon is an Internet of Things (IoT) and Digital Transformation Specialist, with expertise in Software Development, Electronics Engineering, Rapid Prototyping, Technology Selection and IoT Security. The MPWR:Sense solution, is a secure and standalone, environmental sensor that automates measurements of Temperature, Humidity, CO2 and Airborne Particulates. The technology has been piloted at Sci-Tech Daresbury and utilises the SIGFOX network, a low-cost protocol, for sending data.

Capturing environmental data is vital. Many studies have shown a direct correlation between air quality and health, demonstrating that exposure to air pollution leads to adverse public health (WHO | Household air pollution: Health impacts). The IoT Horizon MPWR:Sense sensors are customisable upon application, for example, incorporating occupancy monitoring or tamper detection. The solution has also been designed for both indoor and outdoor applications. Built with security in mind, the MPWR:Sense device has leveraged state-of-the-art security from MULTOS, enabling IoT Horizon to create a robust and highly secure solution.

MULTOS technology reduces the design effort for smart secure device projects requiring robust hardware root-of-trust protection, critical for many IoT solutions and businesses. Its flexibility allows a high-security microcontroller running the renowned MULTOS operating system to be designed in as a supporting secure co-processor. Key features of the MULTOS technology which can be leveraged for smart secure devices include protecting the device runtime, ensuring the identity of endpoints, securing critical data, simplifying the provisioning process, with enhanced flexibility and life cycle management, all while supporting low power modes of operation.

Deyrick Allen, Managing Director at IoT Horizon said; “We are delighted to leverage the high security and flexibility provided by the MULTOS technology for our capable sensor device MPWR:Sense. As the world becomes more connected, digital security is crucial for protecting businesses from malware and other digital attacks. MULTOS provides full end-to-end data protection assuring our customers that the data captured can be trusted, complies with industry standards and hasn’t been manipulated.”

Paul Wilson, Commercial Manager of the MULTOS Consortium said “The world around us is becoming ever more automated and connected, and as edge processing develops with increased computing capability being built into end device sensors, it is clear that leveraging security within sensors will become more widely adopted. The security and flexibility of MULTOS technology is an ideal solution for many secure embedded device design requirements, and we are fully committed to supporting innovative companies such as IoT Horizon to bring smart and secure products to market.”
