Daresbury Laboratory is renowned for its world leading scientific research in fields such as computational science, physics, chemistry, materials, accelerator technology and engineering.
Part of the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC), the laboratory supports scientists, researchers and industry by providing a collaborative environment to perform cutting-edge research and innovation.
STFC is one of Europe’s largest multi-disciplinary research organisations. Funded by the government, it keeps the UK at the forefront of world class science research, technology development and innovation.
STFC maximises the impact of its research and technology by providing industry and academia with access to its broad range of scientific capabilities, technical expertise and business support services at Sci-Tech Daresbury and its sister national science and innovation campus at Harwell in Oxfordshire.
These campuses enable the acceleration of innovation in high-tech businesses from start-ups to multinationals across many sectors and research disciplines including the grand challenge areas of healthcare, energy, environment and security.
STFC’s facilities at Daresbury Laboratory include: The Hartree Centre for data-centric computing, big data and cognitive technologies, the Innovations Technology Access Centre (I-TAC), STFC CERN Business Incubation Centre, particle accelerator research and development centre ASTeC (part of The Cockcroft Institute), the nuclear physics group and engineering and detector technology capabilities.
At our sister site in Harwell, STFC can provide access to world leading laser, neutron, x-ray and space facilities at the Central Laser Facility, ISIS, Diamond Light Source and RAL Space respectively.
STFC Innovations, STFC’s wholly owned technology transfer office, enables the commercial exploitation of STFC’s intellectual property and technologies and those of its partners ESA (European Space Agency) and CERN (The European Organisation for Nuclear Research).
